Missing Command Sets and Field Customizers in Lists with new UI/UX currently being rolled out by Microsoft

As of February 14th, 2024, there is a bug causing trouble within Microsoft’s SharePoint platform affecting SharePoint lists and views. If you are affected, you are missing Command Sets and Field Customizers in lists & views in SharePoint Online.

What’s happening?

For those who have customized Command Sets or Field Customizers in their SharePoint lists or views, you might have noticed they have gone missing. This means that certain crucial features within our apps (copy/cancel enrollments, resend invitation, Send E-mail or update Achievements) are not visible anymore and can therefore not be used.

Without those custom command sets, organizers might find it tricky to manage enrollments smoothly in our apps. You can find a comparison here:

How it should look like:

You can find the announcement in the message center in your M365 admin center with the ID MC709979 & more information here: https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/microsoft-365-blog/microsoft-lists-easier-better-faster-stronger/bc-p/3842882

What we know so far

  • This bug is hitting some users in the Targeted Release group, not everyone.
  • The new list design appears selectively for certain views and users.
  • It’s affecting both public and private SharePoint list views.

What we are doing to solve this urgently

We are in steady contact with Microsoft on GitHub and through the Microsoft Tech Community blog. As a result, they are now aware of the bug and are hustling to fix it by mid-March 2024.

For more insight, you can follow the conversation between our lead developer Florian and the M365 SharePoint engineers at Microsoft on github: SPFx CommandSets and FieldCustomizer not working in new view UI · Issue #9514 · SharePoint/sp-dev-docs (github.com)

What can you do if you encounter these issues?

Good news: Microsoft has paused the rollout of this experiment until they resolve the bug. This means that this will not affect any more users.
